Mike and Mal Leyland, also known as The Leyland Brothers, were Australian explorers and documentary film-makers, best known for their popular television show, Ask the Leyland Brothers. The show ran on Australian television from 1976 until 1984.
Port Albert in Victoria is the scene for an unusual wildlife story. A story with a difference for here the playful and graceful wild seals come in from the sea to get a hand out of fish from the local fish monger. The seals have taken up temporary residence on the giant sleepers of the wharf. The South Island of New Zealand is visited on the west coast to find the answer to a question about the famous New Zealand jade or greenstone. We see how this plain bush rock is turned into valuable jewellery. A step into the past history of the early convict days in the final segment of the episode as we travel by four wheel drive jeep along the disused part of the Old Great North Road which used to run from Sydney to the Hunter Valley in NSW. The Leylands dig up some fascinating history along the route with the help of local bushman Selby Alley who accompanies them on the journey.
