Mike and Mal Leyland, also known as The Leyland Brothers, were Australian explorers and documentary film-makers, best known for their popular television show, Ask the Leyland Brothers. The show ran on Australian television from 1976 until 1984.
In Gundagai the Leylands seek out a magnificent work of art created by a master marble carver. Rusconies masterpiece as it is known took 28 years to create and was left gathering dust for years in the cellar of an old hotel. The close up world of insects is featured in this episode as the Leylands answer an unusual request regarding cicadas and locusts. In north Queensland the Leylands film the rugged beauty of the Carnarvon Gorge with ancient Aboriginal cave paintings and carvings as well as even more ancient palm trees.
