Mike and Mal Leyland, also known as The Leyland Brothers, were Australian explorers and documentary film-makers, best known for their popular television show, Ask the Leyland Brothers. The show ran on Australian television from 1976 until 1984.
In South Australia is one of the most interesting regions of ecological balance to be found anywhere in Australia, the Coorong Lagoon. The Leylands film the area in detail including segments on the unique wildlife it supports. Near Nelson in New Zealand, the Newport family, who feed wild eels in the creek on their farm, provided an unusual and strange subject for the Leylands cameras. The intricate machinery and inner workings of a corking corn mill are shown in Launceston in Tasmania where an old water wheel powered mill has been reconstructed.
