Mike and Mal Leyland, also known as The Leyland Brothers, were Australian explorers and documentary film-makers, best known for their popular television show, Ask the Leyland Brothers. The show ran on Australian television from 1976 until 1984.
In Western Australia not far from Perth, the Leylands meet one of those old time craftsmen still practicing the ancient art of making barrels at the Swan Cooperage. High in the isolated parts of the Great Dividing Range, a team of dedicated men keep watch over our forests to protect them from fire. The work of these men and the firefighting teams which back them up is shown in this episode. The Leylands take their camera underground at Naracoorte in South Australia to film what is regarded by experts to be the worlds greatest fossil bed. Secrets from the ancient past are being revealed with the excavation work deep underground.
