Mike and Mal Leyland, also known as The Leyland Brothers, were Australian explorers and documentary film-makers, best known for their popular television show, Ask the Leyland Brothers. The show ran on Australian television from 1976 until 1984.
At Broken Hill in western NSW we look at the life style of a well known bush artist, Pro Hart. This miner, turned painter is famous all over the world for his impressions of the Australian outback. In this episode the Leylands film the one subject they have received more requests to show on the program than anything else, Ayers Rock. They tell of its discovery, significance to the aboriginals, its changing colours, the wildlife around the rock, and interview some of its sixty thousand visitors to find out why people climb it.
