Mike and Mal Leyland, also known as The Leyland Brothers, were Australian explorers and documentary film-makers, best known for their popular television show, Ask the Leyland Brothers. The show ran on Australian television from 1976 until 1984.
The work of one of the almost forgotten craftsmen of yesteryear is shown at Maleny in Queensland, Harvey Carter restores old horse drawn vehicles, sulkies, wagons and Cobb and Co coaches. The spectacular volcanic scenery of the Warrumbungle Ranges near Coonabarabran in NSW is shown as the Leylands tackle a bushwalking trip through the Warrumbungle National Park. Highlights include koalas and currawongs as well as the superb views from the Grand High Tops. The Leylands are off to the North Island of New Zealand to film the bubbling mud, hot minerals waters and boiling lakes of the Rotorua district. The great thermal fault line that runs through the north island is shown in great detail, from the air and on the ground. We see how man has harnessed the energy of the earth and turned it to his advantage.
